Course Description
During this course students will learn about common tools scientists use, how to avoid injury when completing labs, key elements for designing controlled experiments and how to analyze data using a graph to evaluate results from experiments.
By the end of this unit you will be able to…
- Recognize common tools scientists use and explain how they are used in a lab.
- Identify safe and unsafe behaviors, model proper procedures and create a lab safety plan.
- Distinguish an observation from an inference and site examples of each.
- Discuss key elements that need to be included in a controlled experiment and provide some examples of each.
- Design and conduct a controlled experiment and accurately identify each key element.
- Choose the appropriate graph and accurately organize data.
- Analyze, interpret and evaluate experimental data.

Anyone with the desire to learn! Here at Alotl Science we understand that not every student has the same educational opportunities. We have designed our courses to be simple to follow. Our color-coded slides allow anyone to easily work their way through the content without feeling lost, even as a distance learner.
That said, we are a small mother-daughter team and we are currently working through creating our courses. We have decided to focus on introductory sciences courses as we feel this is where the greatest number of people will benefit from our 25+ years of tried and true teaching experience. If you are a middle, high school or undergraduate student our courses are for you.
There are no prerequisites although we do recommend reading about our course design to fully benefit from our teaching style. While we designed each course to be intuitive, it is helpful to understand why we have such a colorful slide deck. Our courses are open to students of all backgrounds who are 18 years of age and older and to younger students with parental consent. All courses are conducted in English. Video lectures include English subtitles and the option to slow-down, pause, or replay lectures for better retention. We suggest students have a conversational knowledge of English.

If you are new to online learning, we recommend that you begin with one course. You can always come back and continue your studies with one or more topics. After you get a feel for how you learn on your own it is possible to work through multiple courses at a time.
